Summary: Worthy of design awards? Hardly.
Comment: I purchased several of these for my husband, dad, brother and brothers-in-law who all love the latest gadgets. While it serves a purpose, it is not the wonder tool I expected. A good pair of utility scissors can cut through packaging better. You can pinch your hand between the handles while cutting. The release of the utility knife is too similar to the lever used to open the cutting blades, so you can cut yourself if you are not careful. The screwdriver in the handle is a handy addition. Since this tool won design and product innovation awards, I had high hopes, but it just doesn't live up to the hype.

Comment: I gave these out as Christmas presents and kept one for myself. I just love it, I always hated those clam shell packages but this thing makes short work of them. The box cutter and screw drivers are nice extras but it's the ease of opening clam shell packages that make this tool worth the price.

Comment: This is a must for Christmas or birthdays. I can't count how many times someone yelled "Where's the Open-It??" over the holidays! The razor blade feature makes it really unique!

Summary: Got kids? You need this on Christmas morning
Comment: On Christmas Eve, we didn't have it. We struggled to open some gifts for my daughter, and encountered several of the wire twist ties that the toy manufacturers seem to use liberally.
This thing arrived in my stocking on Christmas morning, and the help it provided was like the difference between night and day. Similarly packaged toys opened in a snap, including easy cutting of those twist ties.
The only concern I'd have is that although it's most useful for toys, it's not particularly kid-friendly. The sharp blades and extractable razor mean it should be kept out of reach. Still, it does have a safety lock and the razor stays in its retracted position until moved out with your thumb, so it's not unsafe. You'll just want to make sure you know where it's sitting when there's a toddler around.
Good product, and a great stocking stuffer.
